July 2018. Richard J. Oglesby is Decatur, Illinois' most distinguished citizen. He served as a Civil War General, US Senator, and three-time Governor of Illinois.
On this excursion, we visited the Oglesby Mansion in Decatur, IL.
The house is well-restored and has many authentic features. The library is the most significant room in terms of authenticity, as well as the dining room. Although the furnishings are not original, they are from the same period as when the Oglesbys lived in the house.

The mansion is open for tours every Wednesday and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in June, July and August and the last Sunday of the month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. from March through November. Admission is $2.00.
